Vampire’s Kiss (1988)

Have you ever seen Nicolas Cage make a phonecall while wearing plastic vampire teeth? Have you seen him shout and gesticulate his way through the entire alphabet? Have you seen him literally say “boo hoo” while crying? No? Then you certainly haven’t seen Vampire’s Kiss, which is in the running for “Cage-iest” movie of all time.

Vampire’s Kiss (1988) – Rewrite

We take a couple cracks at the Vampire’s Kiss rewrite; one serious, one not so much. Can we fix a movie that isn’t worth watching without its lead actor? If not, maybe we can further ruin the movie in search of the dark comedy within?

The Romanoffs – 105 – Bright and High Circle

The fifth episode of Amazon’s The Romanoffs has something to say, but we’re not sure what it is, if it’s worth saying, and if Matthew Weiner is the right spokesperson for the message, which seems to be; the worst thing you can be accused of is accusing somebody else of something they didn’t do. Regardless of how we felt about the themes at play, the presentation left a lot to be desired as well, featuring clunky dialog and either stagey acting and/or bizarre editing choices or both. You know, hallmarks of Mad Men, the series that made Weiner famous.

The Young Pope – Episodes 5 & 6

When we began this podcast, we expected to have a lot of fun laughing at the crazy outfits and Jude Law strutting around chewing scenery left and right. And we were right about that, that is pretty funny and a delight to look at. But these last few episodes have revealed a show with much more substance than we were initially led to believe with the premise. What sort of revolution is the Young Pope wanting to lead? Can the Pope continue to cow heretics and Prime Ministers alike with threats of no win situations and divine retribution? Is Jude Law’s butt proof of the existence of God?

105 – Contrapasso

Looks like multiple timelines is back on the menu!  Just when we had completely written of the various timeline theories, they come roaring back in episode 105, “Contrapasso”.  Not saying that any theory at this point is on entirely solid ground, but let’s just say we’ve got our laser-based satellite receivers aimed squarely at Orion’s belt. The point is a lot went down this episode.  El Lazo turns out to be Lawerence,  Dolores comes out slingin’, Elsie’s pounding Bernard’s desk with bloody robot parts, and Dr. Ford has a personal showdown with the mysterious Man in Black. Lots of stuff to be read into this week, and we spend a good amount of time doing just that.  Plus, tons of feedback on evolution, ethics, and genitalia!
