First Run

Love Lies Bleeding (2024)

Love Lies Bleeding (2024) is a body-building, sapphic romance with unexpected turns. Katy O’Brian is on track to become a 3C Badass. From director Rose Glass (Saint Maud) comes a darkly funny and action-packed movie that transforms as the characters do. It’s bad haircuts all around, but it’s the 80s, what do you expect? Blink if you’re ok, Kristen.

Drive Away Dolls (2024)

Ethan Coen sets out as a solo director once again to give us Drive Away Dolls. A quirky romp full of intentionally offensive humor, one unforgettable MacGuffin, and drug-fueled sequences. It’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you cringe. And Jim can’t think of any innuendos off the cuff…probably a good thing.

Napoleon (2023)

The Holdovers (2023)

The Holdovers is a delightful movie with emotional depths that isn’t seen often in recent cinema. The film explores the depths of joy, despair, and hilarity. It’s been called an “instant Christmas classic”, and Jim and A.Ron agree.

Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)

ngster tales. Set in 1920s Oklahoma, Killers of the Flower Moon depicts the injustices suffered by the indigenous poeples of America through the lens of one family’s maniacal and murderous attempts to steal their rights to oil found on their land.

It’s incredibly well acted and is at times gorgeous to look at, even though its action might unsettle you at times. So… it’s a Scorsese movie. You probably already know if you’ll like this one, but if not, there are a lot worse ways to spend an evening.

The Creator (2023)

If you’re a fan of robots, AI, Asimov-ian scifi, this might be the movie for you. Following on the all-too-relevant theme of AI, The Creator tells the story of a future where a large part of the world has embraced augmented humans, and the other hates it. It’s visually arresting and sometimes tonally unbalanced, but it will leave you with plenty to think about. And it was a struggle to get into the theater, so thank Jim and A.Ron for braving the difficulties.
