801 – The End – Instant Take

A.Ron and Cecily are back for another season of Ryan Murphy Madness, this time in Apocalyptic form! Tonight’s season opener of FX’s American Horror Story: Apocalypse felt strangely paced, as it seemed we were hurried along a lot of very interesting settings to get to a weird man with flat ironed hair. Which probably means this season is going to jump around like a horseshoe rabbit on methamphetamine. LA gets nuked, two teenagers we’re not sure why we should care about are ushered to a facility where the world’s elite plan to ride out the fall of civilization. They might be half brothers and sisters, they may be alien babies, one of them might be the Antichrist. Billy Eichner gets vaporized before the title sequence, which delighted and bummed us each out in equal and opposite measure. Ms. Paulson and Bates play purple playtime dress up. Horses get devoured? I guess? Probably radioactive scorpions… it’s just a lot to take in. We’ll be back tomorrow to talk more and discuss your feedback, so please send some in so we all don’t look silly.

We discuss all this plus a ton of great feedback!

The Deuce – 201 – Our Raison D’être

Jim and A.Ron are happy to be back into the swinging 70’s with the cast and crew of HBO’s The Deuce, with it’s return episode, “Our Raison D’être”. This time and setting are so colorful, fun, and alive that it’s easy to forget the layer of decay and menace that lurks just beneath each scene. Whether it’s pimps losing their grip on the game or mobsters that have grown fat and lazy from politicians looking the other way, there are a lot of dangerous people that could quickly decide that they are being squeezed out. Who knows what kind of damage they could wreak on their way out? We hope you join us each week here on Bald Move TV as we watch another David Simon-led look into the intersection of politics, money, crime, and corruption.

A Matter of Life and Death (1946)

Special thanks to commissioner Jaimie T. for having us check out the classic 1946 British film classic, “A Matter of Life and Death”. Featuring a story that pits love against the cosmic law of death, it explores post World War 2 tensions between the England and the Unites States. Both of us see the film’s obvious charm; lavish and colorful visuals, inventive special effects and set design, and appealing lead actors. We also have a few third act quibbles and thematic issues, but not enough to sink the film that’s been called the “British It’s a Wonderful Life”.

The Nun (2018)

Jim and A.Ron put on their brown pants tonight to go out and see The Nun, the latest installment in The Conjuring universe, but only one of us needed to. The film’s getting mixed reviews; and Jim worries that co-writer James Wan’s bag of tricks are getting played out and the movie suffers from inconsistent internal logic. Perhaps I’m the biggest wuss alive, but the movie got my hair standing up on the back of my neck fairly consistently. Your mileage may vary!

309 – The Rains of Castamere

This week we have the pleasure of talking about one of the best, and most gut wrenching episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones, “The Rains of Castamere”. The Lannisters score a decisive victory against the Starks in surprising and brutal fashion. Particularly rough is Arya, who is forced to witness the destruction of her family when she was oh so close to being reunited with them. Over in Essos, Dany provides a lone bright point as her captains’ valor and her reputation as Breaker of Chains lays the slave city of Yunkai at her feet. We’ll be back next week to wrap this season up. See you then!

405 – Quite a Ride

Jim and A.Ron tackle a very good and very Kim and Jimmy episode of AMC’s Better Call Saul, “Quite a Ride”. A taste of BrBa-era Saul! The origins of the Superlab!  The return of grifting at the ol’ Dog House and the Wash Tub! Lots of nostalgia and lots of great character development and a very fun montage anchor this episode and make it a stand out. Plus, we talk therapy, Kim theories, thoughts on Gus’ background and much more in our feedback section!
