601 – First Time Again – Instant Take

The (Original Recipe) Walking Dead returns tonight with episode 601, “First Time Again”, and we’re relieved that it was actually pretty good! Packed with zombie action, rube goldberg-esque zombie herd management, and superior performances by Lennie James and Andrew Lincoln, it kept us entertained throughout the 1:30 run time. What did you think? Tell us using the links below, and we’ll be back Tuesday for our full coverage cast!

501 – Checking In

First off, I apologize for the terrible audio quality of this podcast. As I explain in the intro, I’m doing a remote podcast from Seattle and the results are kind of garbage. Speaking of garbage, that’s kind of my opinion of the first half of the season premiere episode of American Horror Story: Hotel, “Checking In”. Then it starts to do some character and world building in the second half and picks up. We discuss Glampires, my thoughts on a man being sodomized with a chrome plated drill bit, Gaga’s eyebrows, and much more. With a bit of feedback, and a bit of spoilers at the very tail end. Hope you manage to enjoy it despite the crap sound, we’ll be back to normal next week!

312 – Half Measures

A.Ron and Jim near the end of their re-watch of Breaking Bad season 3, with the thrilling episode “Half Measures”. An incredible episode that has you wondering what’s in store for next week’s installment, which is “Full Measure”. We discuss one of the all time great cold opens in BrBa history, “Wendy”, Marie’s motivational, uh, “techniques”, Mike’s shadowy past, and Walt’s Aztek at it’s most badass and heroic. As next episode will be our last Breaking Bad cast ever, we paused in our coverage to allow you guys to have your say about the series as a whole, or whatever is on your mind. Use the links below to get in touch with us, and we’ll see you back next week to say goodbye to Breaking Bad.

201 – Axis Mundi

We’ve got our bags backed and we’ve boarded the green park service buses en route to Jarden, Texas, to take in the sights of the season two premiere of “The Leftoves”, “Axis Mundi”. Pre-historic births, John C. Riley camping on a column, the slaughter of goats, bird resurrection, firemen burning down houses, shocking “Perfect Stranger” and “Family Matters” tie ins… this episode met and exceeded our weirdness expectations and left us wanting more. And it wouldn’t be a “The Leftovers” podcast with out some bark at the moon crazy theories and speculation, some from us, some from you the fellow fan. Please, enjoy!

Daredevil (2015)

Special thanks to Robert Packnett who commissioned us to take on Netflix’s 2015 series, “Daredevil”, with a particular emphasis on the episodes “Cut Man” and “Shadows in the Glass”. This was a particularly shrewd selection, as they both deal with the duality of the main hero and villain of the series, and their histories, similarities, strengths, and weaknesses. “Daredevil” is a series that is so much better than it has any right to be, and it’s a magical combination of the writing, direction, and incredible charisma of the main cast that holds it all together and keeps it on track, making it even greater than the sum of it’s parts.

Following The Leftovers – Season 2 Preview

Jim and A.Ron look forward to checking in on the Garvey’s and meeting the Murphy’s in season two of The Leftovers, returning to your television this Sunday on HBO at 9pm. We’re pumped up due to Alan Sepinwall’s recent review and interview of show runner Damon Lindelof, so there is a ton to talk about.  The mysteries of Jarden, Texas, the differing points of view featured this season, and what the heck is going on down in Australia?  We don’t have a lot of answers, and Lindelof says he doesn’t either, but at least we’ll all have fun watching.  Er, I mean, at least we’ll all sob our selves to sleep after watching.

311 – Abiquiu

Jim and A.Ron are on to episode 311, “Abiquiu”, an episode of post-modern impressionist vaginas, gangster Food Network show pilots, and unexpected connections to Combos of long ago. Enjoy the flashbacks and fond memories while you can, and then buckle up, because the final two episodes of this season define the levels of crazy that Breaking Bad can get up to!

310 – The Fly

Jim and A.Ron look into a fairly polarizing episode of Breaking Bad, episode 310, “The Fly”. Some see it as a slow, ponderous, pointless exercise in budget cutting, while others see a beautiful, rich, thematic character study resting entirely on the performances of Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston. Listen in to find out which side of the divide we fall on!
